I'm in Lower East Side, New York City, have been for 8 years. I work as a web designer for an ecommerce site, and have for 7 years. I'm married to sculptor, performance artist and pyschologist, Ruth Parson, have been for 16 years. Ruth and I paint together on Sundays. We're both Californians, we first met in Sonoma County almost 30 years ago. Back then, we had young children, both single parents with one child each -- mine a son, hers a daughter. Ruth and I didn't get together then, we got hooked up 15 years later in 1990, when our children were in their 20's. We lived together in Bodega (the town, not the Bay), West Sonoma County and in San Francisco, moved to NYC in '97. Long ago, she was from Palo Alto, I was from southeast Los Angeles area. I've always been a painter, picked up photography in the late '70s and video in the '80s. I liked underground, alternative culture, as a 12 year-old I tried to hang out in Venice. An old beat told me I should surf instead, I did. I joined the Navy, went overseas after high school. Went to college from '65 to '71, first in San Luis Obispo County, then in Sonoma County. I was a community organizer-type, first around anti-racism and anti-war issues, then for early childhood education, after that, community arts. Most of my life, I worked as a restaurant cook, but was co-director of a community art gallery for 2 years and Development Director for a NPR bi-lingual Spanish radio station for one.
